The Reaper and The Cat
Whelp. There she lies under a tree in the moonlight. Beautiful as ever, even in death. “Man, I wish you didn’t stab yourself. It would have made my time easier.” I say as I walk up to her body. As I pull out the knife, I FEEL her staring. Her essence. I look over my shoulder to see Silvia Fields, a very dear friend of mine. “Hey, Silvia. How are you?” I ask, turning my attention back to her corpse, cleaning it up so people can bury her properly. “....You’re an asshole, J. 145 years and THAT'S all you have to say to me?!” She hisses. “Well…truth be told…I DID check on you, you HALF-WIT. All that beauty and wit, and yet you STILL act like your brain is in your clit.” I say, getting up now that I am done cleaning. I brush myself off. “HEY!” she yells. “Mhmm, what? What’s wrong, pookie?” I reply slowly, smiling and lowering myself to her height. “OH, PAWS OFF!” Silvia screams as she launches herself at me, claws and all. A devilish smile spreads across my face. “Ah. Ah. Ahh. Pretty kitty,” I say as I grab both of her arms. “I thought you would like to thank the guy who stopped your soul from abstracting.” Her body finally relaxes, no longer trying to kill me (again) with her murder mittens. “...I missed you…So much…Jasper. Thank you for saving me.” Silvia replied softly, tears starting to well up in her beautiful yellow eyes. …Gosh, I missed those reflective yellow eyes of hers. They were beautiful in life and now…in death. They still remind me of the sunflowers near our houses. I let her go, thinking she wasn’t going to pounce. I was wrong. Silvia pounced on me, making me fall onto my back onto the hard ground. I didn’t mind. She gave me the biggest hug my undead self ever received. I patted her back. “Yeah, Yeah…Missed you, kitty.” I say softly as I nuzzle my face into her chocolate brown hair. I can let my guard down…right..? With her..? Yep. Only her. Only Silvia can do this to me. 145 years perfecting this mask of indifference as a reaper…and yet she is still the only one who can always break my mask.
In Our Favor - The Breakdown
Aria sat in the corner of her bathroom. The lights were off, and the loud sobs echoed in the room. Aria rocked back and forth as the hot tears rolled down her cheeks. “ Don’t take them, Don’t take them, Don’t take them, Don’t take them, Don’t take them,” she mumbled under her breath. Aria felt like she was drowning, every breath stolen from her by her ocean of fear. She couldn’t hear her boyfriend banging on the door and his voice called out to her. Everything sounded like she was underwater. “PLEASE DON’T TAKE THEM” Aria screamed as the tears continued to roll down her cheeks. At that moment, Jaxson kicked the bathroom door. His knuckles were bruised and there were tears in his mismatched eyes. The light from the hallway lit a path to Aria. With the sudden light and the door breaking open, she looked up to see Jaxson on one knee. “Hi, my love…Non-verbal?” He asked. Aria nods. “Okay, I am going to ask you questions and you just nod or shake your head, okay?” Jaxson asked. Aria nods. He sits next to her and pulls her closer to him. Aria’s breathing started to stabilize. “Panic attack?” Aria nods. “About me and the kids?” she nods. “Okay,” Jaxson says. He pulls Aria into his lap and hugs her tightly. “I got you, I got you,” Jaxson said as he rocked her back and forth. “We are never going to leave you or get taken from you. You are stuck with us.” Jaxson said stifling a laugh. Aria pushed herself up to look at her boyfriend. She smiled at Jaxson. At the moment she smiled, Jaxson’s mismatched eyes started to swell with tears. Tears started rolling down his cheeks as he pulled Aria into a hug. “I was so scared and worried about you! Please…Please don’t lock yourself in a room. We all want to help you. I know I can be strong for you, but if you break, I’m going to break too.” Jaxson said sobbing. Aria hugged him back tightly so he could feel her heartbeat. “I…I'm sorry to make you worry mi sol.” Aria said sniffling. “It's okay, mi luna, I love you,” Jaxson said sniffling. “I love you too. I think the kids are worried about me huh?” Aria said giggling as she brushed the tears off of Jaxson's reddened cheeks. Jaxson looked up at Aria with love and admiration. “yeah…The kids are worried about you. Knowing them, they have been sitting outside, waiting for you. For us, to call them.” Aria laughed. Jaxson brushed the remaining tears off of Aria's reddened cheeks and kissed her cheek. Aria smiled and called out to the kids. “Kiddos, tu mama Daijobu!! Come here, my angels!!” Aria said. (Translation: Kiddos, Your mom is okay!) All three kids ran through the broken doorway and into Aria’s arms. The three kids hugged the two people in their lives that they consider their parents. The two youngest children sat on Aria’s lap and the eldest sat next to Jaxson, laying his full body weight onto him.
